HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 07-00234 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT (S), AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR GRANT FUNDING TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES, DIVISION OF URBAN FORESTRY, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $25,000, FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION, TO CREATE A MINI -HAMMOCK AT KENNEDY PARK; AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S REQUIRED MATCHING FUNDS FOR FIFTY PERCENT (50%) OF THE PROJECT COSTS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $25,000, FROM IN -KIND VOLUNTEER SERVICES AND SALARIES FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION'S GENERAL FUND; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, FOR SUBMISSION OF SAID GRANT APPLICATION FOR FISCAL YEAR 2007-2008, SUBJECT TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SAID GRANT APPLICATION. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") wishes to create a Mini -Hammock Kennedy Park ("Project"); and WHEREAS, the Project will provide a model for other parks within the City; and WHEREAS, the Project will include a trail and signage discussing the various vegetation found in a tropical hardware hammock; and WHEREAS, the Project will be used for educational purposes for the citizens of the City; and WHEREAS, the total cost of the Project is estimated not to exceed $50,000; and WHEREAS, the City is allocating the required matching funds of $25,000, in the manner provided herein for the Project; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to apply for grant funding from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Urban Forestry ("State") for the Project in an amount not to exceed fifty percent (50%) of the total Project cost of $50,000, or not more than $25,000, to be matched by an equal amount of in -kind services; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized(1) submit an application for grant funding to the State, City of Miami Page 1 of 2 Printed On: 2/20/2007 Filo Number: 07-00234 in an amount not to exceed $25,000, for the Department of Parks and Recreation, to create the Project. Section 3. The allocation of the City's required matching funds for fifty percent (50%) of the Project costs, in an amount not to exceed $25,000, is authorized, from in -kind volunteer services and salaries from the Department of Parks and Recreation's General Fund. Section 4. The City Manager is further authorized{1} to execute the necessary documents, in substantially the attached form, for submission of said grant application for Fiscal Year 2007-2008, subject to the terms and conditions of said grant application. FERNANDEZ KW CITY ITT'RNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
