Subject: Ordinance to authorize City Manager to accept and appropriate funding from Miami -Dade
County for South Miami Avenue roadwork, Project B-60479.
Purpose of Item:
To authorize the City Manager to accept and appropriate funding from Miami -Dade County for South
Miami Avenue from SE 25th Road to SE 15th Road, B-60479 in an amount not to exceed $350,000.
Background Information:
On June 9, 2005 the City Commission amended Ordinance 12622 adopted December 9, 2004 by
adopting Ordinance 12696 authorizing the City Manager to execute a Joint Participation Agreement
with Miami -Dade County for South Miami Avenue, from Southeast 25th Road to Southeast 15th Road,
Project B-60479 and to accept and appropriate funds in the amount of $840,000 for use by the City
to complete road repairs. This project originally consisted of the construction of a roundabout at the
intersection of South Miami Avenue and Southeast 15th Road, signage, striping, roadway and
pedestrian lighting, addition of curb ramps, milling, resurfacing and the replacement of broken
sidewalks, curb and gutters and inlet tops. The County is now requesting a broadening of the scope
of work for this project to include the addition of bicycle' lanes and drainage improvements and,
therefore, has increased their contribution of funds by $350,000 from $840,000 to a total of
$1,190,000. This Ordinance authorizes acceptance of the funds and appropriation.
A companion item to this Ordinance is authorizing execution of the necessary grant documents to
accept the increased contribution from the County and to approve the City required matching funds.
