Thompson City Clerk December 15, 2006 Subject: Commission on the Status of Women References: January 11, 2007 Agenda Enclosures: List of members The Commission on the Status of Women was created to serve in an advisory capacity to the City Commission, including advising on any possible barrier which may impede the participation of women in City sponsored programs and activities; to work toward legislation granting women equality before the law; to inspire in women the desire for self-improvement and pride of being, regardless of age, marital status, race, color or creed; to seek for every woman the opportunities equal to her potential and responsibility; to seek opportunities for and to encourage the active involvement of women in matters pertaining to community progress; to encourage capable women in roles of leadership. Three (3) appointments are needed at this time. • Commissioner Sarnoff has two (2) nominations for: 1. Maria Mascarenas, incumbent, whose term expired on November 10, 2006.* 2. Vacancy (due to the resignation of Paula Xanthopoulou). • Mayor Manuel Diaz has one (1) nomination for: 1. Donna Milo, incumbent, whose term expired on November 10, 2006.* For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office place this issue on the January 11, 2007 Commission agenda. * These matters were deferred from the November 9, 2006 Commission meeting.
