A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE
PROVISION OF IN -KIND SERVICES, TO THE SUPER BOWL HOST COMMITTEE,
FROM THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE, FIRE -RESCUE AND SOLID WASTE, IN
AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $200,000, TO HELP DEFRAY THE COSTS
ASSOCIATED WITH HOSTING VARIOUS SUPER BOWL XLI EVENTS LOCATED
IN THE CITY OF MIAMI.
WHEREAS, South Florida recently hosted Super Bowls XXIX in 1995 and XXXIII in 1999; and
WHEREAS, South Florida has an opportunity to host the 2007 Super Bowl; and
WHEREAS, our community has a proven track record of successfully hosting the Super Bowl; and
WHEREAS, over 110,000 people are expected to visit the host community during the two weeks
of Super Bowl Festivities; and
WHEREAS, at least 750 million viewers around the world will focus their eyes on our community
as they watch the event on television; and
WHEREAS, hosting this momentous sporting event in our community provides a tremendous
opportunity to boost our tourism industry and local economy; and
WHEREAS, the total economic impact on a host community from the Super Bowl is estimated in
excess of $300 million; and
WHEREAS, three of the main events will be held in the City of Miami ("City"); and
WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes the significance of hosting Super Bowl events held
in the City and wishes to show its commitment through in -kind support of the game and its
surrounding activities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission authorizes the provision of in -kind services, to the Super
Bowl Host Committee, from the Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue and Solid Waste, in an amount
not to exceed $200,000, to help defray the costs associated with hosting various Super Bowl XLI
events located in the City.

Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{1}
Footnotes:
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
