Subject: City of Miami Acceptance of a $500,000 grant from the Bayfront Park Management Trust to
benefit City Parks.
Purpose of Item:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission accept the one-time grant in the amount of
$500,000 given by the Bayfront Park Management Trust to assist in the City's efforts to improve
programming and activities in the City's Parks.
Background Information:
The Trust has also been interested in assisting in the effort to improve programming and activities in
the City's parks. Furthering the interest of promoting greater community utilization and enjoyment of
the City's parks, the Trust would like to give a one-time grant in the amount of $500,000, to the City
to create additional and/or sustain and/or improve park programs, exclusively, such as: After school
activities, Summer programs, Programs for those with disabilities, and/or similar in the City's Parks,
of which $100,000.00, shall be distributed to each of the five districts located in the City of Miami for
programs as determined by each individual Commissioner. The Trust requires that the City of
Miami's Park's Director along with each Commissioner will identify use of these funds in FY 2006-
07 and the Park's Director will report to the Trust the final use of these funds at a regularly scheduled
Trust meeting. Additionally, the Director of the City of Miami Parks Department is to submit a
written report to the Executive Director of the Trust, delineating the utilization of the funds , within
sixty (60) days of the end of the fiscal year.
