Park.
It is respectfully recommended that the Miami City Commission adopt the Resolution, with
attachments, authorizing the City Manager to execute an amendment, in substantially the attached
form, to the agreement between Mrs. Tina Hills ("Benefactor") and the City of Miami (City), dated
December 19, 1985, wherein the Benefactor has agreed to authorize the use of the grant funds, in the
approximate sum of $260,312.37, for the acquisition and construction of a children's play area at
the south end of Bayfront Park, and further authorizing the use of the remaining grant funds for
future improvements to the children's play area, subject to all other terms and conditions set forth in
the amendment attached hereto, and all applicable requirements and restrictions.
BACKGROUND
On December 19, 1985, the Miami City Commission, by Resolution No. 85-1231, authorized the
City Manager to enter into an Agreement with Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hills accepting a donation of
$110,000 for the construction of Isamu Noguchi Play Sculptures in Bayfront Park. The project
was delayed nine years and when the installation project was begun, City of Miami Risk
Management determined that the sculptures were no longer considered safe play equipment.
Trust staff and Mrs. Hills have spent the intervening period reviewing a number of options for
the use of the funds and have agreed to use a portion of the funds for the acquisition and
installation of children's play equipment and sculpture. The Twenty -Fourth Amendment to the
Agreement authorizes the use of those funds.
