Sports Development Program 2006-2007 Misiion Statement The mission of Belafonte Tacolcy Center, Inc. (BTC) is to provide a safe cnvimnment where children and families are encouraged to explore lifc's options, making positive choices that strengthen self and community. Program Description The Sports Development Program. (SDP) is an academically focused sports program which provides youth of the Liberty City Community with academic support, structured leisure time and recreational sport activities. The SDP consist of a variety of team and individual sports which a re designed to promote both the physical and social health. of the youth of the Model City communities. These activities and services will include: Academic performance, monitoring and tutoring; Organized team Sports; individual Sports; Indoor/Outdoor games; and social and emotional support services provided through the in house (BTC) youth service network, The target populations for the SDP are youth and young adults between the ages of 5 and 17 years of age in Liberty City and. surrounding areas. The Sports Development Program serves a total of 60 participants in the basketball league, 200 per event in the football league and between 56 to 73 participants in the softball league, BTC also hosts two special events two times a year and service approximately 500 youth. The programs activities and events provided by BTC save the city by cutting operational, personnel and maintenance costs at Belafonte Tacolcy Park. The Belafonte Tacolcy Center, Inc. believes that youth and young adults when engaged in positive structured activities will diminish opportunities of criminal behavior. The program's strategy is one of prevention and intervention. Programming is scheduled year round and includes organized team and individual sports such as football, basketball, baseba111T-ball and Cheerleading. Outdoor and indoor and recreational and educational games such as chess, checkers, and monopoly are also a part of the program. These events will include relays, problem solving activities, motivational challenges and an array of other structured games and workshops. Monitoring and Evaluation Design Program impacts will be measured via the gathering of data an a monthly basis. The data will be complied on program service delivery forms, These forms will include academics, attendance, weight, height, and behavioral information. Additional data will also be gathered from the participant registration form and all data will be reported quarterly.
