Thompson City Clerk Date: September 18, 2006 Subject: Orange Bowl Advisory Board References: October 12, 2006 Agenda Enclosures: List of members The Orange Bowl Advisory Board was created to serve in an advisory capacity and make recommendations in writing to the City Commission as they relate to the Orange Bowl which shall include, but not be limited to: (1) Identification of essential capital improvements to modernize and restore the Orange Bowl as a first class facility; (2) Identification of funding sources to finance said capital improvements; (3) Identification of new and enthusiastic promotional strategies to market and attract diverse events to the Orange Bowl; (4) Recommendations for the solicitation of corporate sponsorship of the Orange Bowl facility and its components (skyboxes, etc.); and (5) Presentation of reports of the Board's findings, as directed by the City Commission. Members shall be qualified electors of the City of Miami. Per a legal opinion received from the City Attorney, this requirement cannot be waived (See attached legal opinion). Seven (7) appointments are required at this time. • Vice Chairman Sanchez as two (2) nominations: 1. Vacancy (seat formerly held by Arthur Hertz, who was removed from the Board as he was not an elector of the City of Miami). 2. Vacancy (seat formerly held by Michael Sheldon, who was removed from the Board as he was not an elector of the City of Miami). • Commissioner Haskins has two (2) nominations: 1. Vacancy, due to the resignation of Rick Rodriguez Pina 2. Vacancy (seat formerly held by Ron Stone, who was removed from the Board as he was not an elector of the City of Miami) • Commissioner Regalado has two (2) nominations: 1. Vacancy (seat formerly held by Max Cruz, who was removed from the Board as he was not an elector of the City of Miami. 2. Vacancy (seat formerly held by Marianne Salazar, who was removed from the Board as she was not an elector of the City of Miami) • Commissioner Spence -Jones has one nomination for seat currently held by: 1. Vacancy (seat formerly held by Laurinus Pierre, who was removed from the Board as he was not an elector of the City of Miami). For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the October 12, 2006 Commission agenda. PAT:pb c: Maria J.
