Project Narrative/Description
The First Miami High School is a wood frame structure that was originally located in downtown Miami. Over the years the building was relocated to the grounds of
Southside Elementary School where it served as a classroom space for many years. Most recently. the historic high school was utilized as a boarding house until
it was rescued from demolition through the efforts of Dade Heritage Trust, the City of Miami, developer Kevin Riley and the Miami High School Alumni Association.
Several years ago the building was relocated to Southside Park where it is intended to serve the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department in a variety of
Public Educational Programs. At that time the building received a new roof, new foundations, and a new front porch. However, its complete restoration could not
be funded at that time. Moreover, the school received significant damage and shifted during hurricane Wilma.
GOB Total Funding Allocation Narrative/Description
In order to complete the necessary restoration and repairs the current scope of work will include; structural repairs, lateral bracing, new mechanical, electrical,
plumbing and fire protection systems. Architectural improvements will include restoration of the original ceilings, walls, and floors, in a manner consistent with the
buildings original design. Additional work will include the restoration of the original wood siding, and windows. New exterior doors will be installed and the building
will be painted and waterproofed. Upon completion of the work, the building will meet all current building code requirements.
GOB 2005 Funding Allocation Narrative/Description
All 2005 GOB funding will be used for above project.
