ElNCLOSLIRES: Committee Memo
The City issued Request for Qualifications (RFQ) No. 05-06-081 for the provision of professional
architectural and engineering services for a Museum at Virginia Key Beach. We evaluated the
submittals utilizing a two part process to select the most qualified firm.
Submittals were distributed to the Committee following their receipt on the advertised due date, July 17,
2006. The Committee reviewed and discussed all seven submittals (1) Arquitectonica, (2) BEA
International — Huff and Gooden Architects, LLC, (3) E. Verner Johnson and Associates, Inc., (4)
FreelonlJudson, (5) Moody - Nolan Inc., (6) Olson Sundberg Kundig Alien Architects, and (7)
Snohetta prior to making a determination to invite four firms to give presentations on September 13,
2006.
BEA International — Huff and Gooden Architects, LLC, E. Verner Johnson and Associates, Inc.,
Freelon/Judson and Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects were provided 20 minutes each to present
their team and their approach to the project to the Committee followed by 40 minutes for the Committee
to ask questions. .
Immediately following all of the presentations, we deliberated and ranked the firms as follows:
1. BEA International — Huff and Gooden Architects, LLC
2. Freelon/Judson .
3. Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects
4. E. Verner Johnson and Associates, Inc
We are recommending that the City enter into negotiations with BEA International Huff and Gooden
Architects, LLC, the firm determined to be the most qualified by the Committee. In the event negotiations
fail with the top ranked firm, the Committee recommends entering into negotiations with the 2nd and 3rd
ranked firms until an agreement is reached. I have attached a short summary of each firm's qualifications
for your review.
Thank you.
