A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHING A NEW
SPECIAL REVENUE FUND ENTITLED: "NIJ FY06 COVERDELL FORENSIC
SCIENCE IMPROVEMENT" AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS, CONSISTING OF A
GRANT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF
JUSTICE, IN THE AMOUNT OF $95,000, FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY
DOCUMENTS, TO IMPLEMENT ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has a strong interest in enhancing services in the forensic
science field; and
WHEREAS, the City submitted a grant application to the Department of Justice requesting
funding for specialized forensic training classes, contractual personnel and overtime funds for Crime
Scene and Technical Services personnel; and
WHEREAS, the City received an award in the amount of $95,000 from the National Institute of
Justice; and
WHEREAS, any purchases would have to comply with applicable City Code purchasing
requirements;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Fund is established and resources are
appropriated as described below:
FUND TITLE: NIJ FY06 Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement
RESOURCES: Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice $95,000
APPROPRIATIONS: forensic science improvements $95,000
Section 3. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute the necessary documents, to implement
acceptance of said grant.

Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}
Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter
and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
