The City was initially notified of this grant in April, 2006, however, the City could not complete construction by the initial construction deadline imposed by the grant and was unable to obtain an extension until August, 2006. The new deadline requires the refurbishment to be completed by January 2007, prior to the 2007 Superbowl, thereby requiring the refurbishment to take place during the football season. To facilitate the continuation of scheduled high school games, the Parks and Recreation Department contacted the Department of Public Facilities to seek assistance in utilizing the Orange Bowl Stadium for the games. The Orange Bowl is available on both days to accommodate the events, The Parks and Recreation Department usually receives an all inclusive amount of $850.00 for each game at Curtis Park. Since the displacement is a result of the City seeking to refurbish the field at Curtis Park, we are recommending the school continue to pay only $850 to offset City Event Staff costs and to waive the basic use fee and ticket surcharge.
