While the City has leveraged substantial funding from other grant sources for coastal stabilization features along the southern shoreline, the City needs additional monies to curb soil erosion, provide shoreline protection as well as public seating facilities along the baywalk area earmarked for this southern shoreline. Currently, approximately 500 linear feet along the southeastern shoreline of Watson Island has no shoreline protective features for its surface soil, The grant provided by the Department of Environmental Protection provides for total funding in the amount of $50,000 with a local match of an equal amount being funded by the Miami Parking Authority for the design and construction of the retaining wall/public seating for the baywalk. The dual purpose design efficiently conserves on construction dollars while still meeting public accessibility needs. Based upon recent conceptual planning, the City anticipates utilizing this grant funding exclusively for development of baywalk retaining wall/seating component of the project. Page 2 of 2
