Chapter 42, Article IV, Division 4, Section 42-119, of the Code of the City of Miami, establishes
the maximum rates charged by towing companies. The current contract rates have been in effect
since April of 2000 and were based upon the cost of doing business in 2000.
The rates have remained static and have not been amended to consider inflation, the increased
cost of fuel, cost of insurance, increased labor costs due to minimum wage increase. Because of
these additional costs, the towing contractors have requested an adjustment of the contractual
tow rates.
The Towing Review Board met on February 13, 2006, to discuss the current tow rates and the
proposed adjustments requested by the tow companies. At that meeting, the Towing Review
Board recommended increases to the tow rates as reflected on the attached Ordinance being
submitted for your approval.
