Subject: RE: TOWING-8-06
It is recommended that the Commission approve the attached resolution amending the Rate Schedule
included in the City of Miami Police Towing Contract No.
The contractors provide towing and storage at the request of the City of Miami Police Department
pursuant to Chapter 323 of the Florida State Statutes and Chapter 42 Article IV, of the Code of the City
of Miami.
Chapter 42 Article IV Division 4 Section 42-119 of the Code of the City of Miami, and the City of
Miami Police towing agreement establishes the maximum rates for police requested tows. The rates in
the current contract were placed into effect in April of 2000 and were based upon the cost of doing
business in 2000.
The rates have remained in effect and have not been amended to consider inflation, the increased cost of
fuel, cost of insurance, increased labor costs, and the changes in the Consumer Price Index for
Transportation. Because of these additional costs, the towing contractors have requested an adjustment
of the contractual tow rates.
The Towing Review Board met on February 13 to discuss the requested adjustment of the tow rates.
Based upon that meeting and review of above items, an adjustment of the contractual rates appears
appropriate and is being recommended for your approval.
