A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $500,000, FROM THE
CHILDREN'S TRUST TO ESTABLISH THE CITY OF MIAMI-TRUANCY
PREVENTION PROGRAM DURING THE 2006-2007 SCHOOL YEAR;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY
DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT AWARD.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami's ("City") Office of the Mayor has requested funding from the
Children's Trust to establish the City -Truancy Prevention Program; and
WHEREAS, the City -Truancy Prevention Program will promote consistent student attendance and
student achievement; and
WHEREAS, the City -Truancy Prevention Program will be piloted in the East Little Havana and
Overtown communities, in Miami, Florida; and
WHEREAS, the City -Truancy Prevention Program is another example of the strengthened
partnership between the City and the Miami -Dade County Public School System; and
WHEREAS, the City was awarded a grant in the amount of $500,000, pursuant to said request;
and
WHEREAS, the City must execute an award package, including a Grant Award Agreement, to
accept the grant;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized(1) to accept a grant in the amount of $500,000, from
the Children's Trust to establish the City -Truancy Prevention Program during the 2006-2007 school
year.
Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute the necessary documents to implement
the acceptance of said grant award.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}

Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City
Charter and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall
become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
