HomeMy WebLinkAboutSummary FormAGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM Date: MAY 0 3 2006 FILE ID: atc—rot Requesting Department: Police Commission Meeting Date: 6/8/2006 2006 MEW fiist i t ip ted: ALL Type: ® Resolution ❑ Ordinance ❑ Emergency Ordinance ❑ Discussion Item ❑ Other Subject: A Resolution establishing a Special Revenue Fund entitled "Violent Crime/Witness Protection Program Purpose of Item: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution establishing a Special Revenue Fund entitled: "Violent Crime/Witness Protection Program", and appropriating funds, in an amount not to exceed $200,000 for the acceptance of funds from the State of Florida, Florida Violent Crime and Drug Control Council for reimbursement of expenses incurred in providing protective services under the Victims/Witness program and conducting violent crime or drug control related investigations pursuant to Section 943.042, Florida Statutes, as amended, through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Office of Statewide Intelligence. Background Information: The State of Florida established the Florida Violent Crime Council under the Florida Violent Crime Act of 1993, Section 943.031 and amended the statute in 2001 and renamed the Council to the Violent Crime and Drug Control Council (VCDCC) which authorizes financial assistance to law enforcement agencies to reduce crime and protect the citizens of Florida. The State of Florida reviews violent crime, victim witness and drug cases recommended and certified by the State Attorneys Office to determine whether they comply under funding guidelines and criteria, Guidelines establishes a $100,000 maximum limit on the amount that may be disbursed on a single investigation and limits each agency to a $200,000 maximum amount during each fiscal year.
