HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-06-0324City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-06-0324 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 06-00920 Final Action Date: 5/25/2006 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION SUPPORTING THE CODESIGNATION BY THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE OF LEJEUNE ROAD FROM FLAGLER STREET TO SOUTHWEST 8TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "RAFAEL L. DIAZ-BALART ROAD;" DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMITA COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE ELECTED OFFICIALS DESIGNATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, Rafael L. Diaz-Balart Gutierrez was born in Cuba in 1926 and passed away May 6, 2006; and WHEREAS, as a Cuban politician he served as Majority Leader of the Cuban House of Representatives; and WHEREAS, in January 28, 1959, he founded "La Rosa Blanca," (The White Rose) the first Anti -Castro organization, in New York City; and WHEREAS, Rafael L. Diaz-Balart was the father of United States Congressmen Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Mario Diaz-Balart; and WHEREAS, Rafael L. Diaz-Balart worked tirelessly in several and diverse national and international organizations for the preservation of freedom; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission supports the codesignation by the Florida Legislature of LeJeune Road from Flagler Street to Southwest 8th Street, Miami, Florida, as "Rafael L. Diaz-Balart Road." Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Jeb Bush, Representative David Rivera, the Chair and members of the Miami -Dade County State Legislative Delegation, and members of the Florida Legislature. Section 4.
