HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.ci.miami.fl.us File Number: 06-00661 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE FUND ENTITLED: "FIRST AIDE/CPR EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING PROGRAM," CONSISTING OF A GRANT FROM THE HEALTH FOUNDATION OF SOUTH FLORIDA AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $200,000, WITH THE AMOUNT OF $50,000, AS THE FIRST INSTALLMENT AND AN AMOUNT OF $50,000, EVERY SIX MONTHS THEREAFTER, FOR A TOTAL TWO-YEAR PERIOD, TO PURCHASE AND INSTALL A MINIMUM OF SIXTY-SIX (66) AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS CITY-WIDE, TO PROVIDE TRAINING BY THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE -RESCUE TO 1,000 CITY OF MIAMI RESIDENTS AND EMPLOYEES IN CPRIAED USAGE, AND TO CONDUCT OUTREACH ACTIVITIES TO INCREASE AWARENESS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT AWARD AND TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT AWARD, AND TO COMPLY WITH THE GRANT REQUIREMENTS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") applied for a grant from the Health Foundation of South Florida to assist with the training of City residents and employees with Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation/Automatic External Defibrillator ("CPR/AED") usage; and WHEREAS, the City has been awarded a grant, in the amount of $200,000, with $50,000 as a first installment and $50,000 every six months thereafter for a total two-year period, in support of this effort to purchase a minimum of sixty-six (66) automatic external defibrillators, to train 1,000 people within the next two (2) years, and to conduct outreach activities to increase awareness through the distribution of 5,000 brochures, 300 posters, use of the City of Miami Fire Rescue website, and CPR/AED signage placement; and WHEREAS, pursuant to grant stipulations, said funds will be used by the Department of Fire -Rescue in conjunction with the Departments of Parks, Police, Net, and Communications to purchase the automatic external defibrillators, to identify and train City residents and employees for the next two (2) years, and to conduct outreach activities; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to accept said grant, to execute the necessary documents, and to establish a special revenue fund for the appropriation of said grant award; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. The following new Special Revenue Fund is established and resources are appropriated as described below:{1} FUND TITLE: First Aide/CPR Educational/Training Program RESOURCES: Health Foundation of South Florida $200,000 4PPROPRIATIONS: $50,000 as a first installment and $50,000 every six months $200,000 thereafter, for a total two-year period Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to accept said grant award, to execute the necessary documents to implement acceptance of said grant award and to comply with the grant requirements. Section 4. FERNANDEZ CI'�Y ATTORNEY � J Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
