HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-06-0274City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-06-0274 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 06-00467 Final Action Date: 5/11/2006 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF EMERGENCY SHELTER GRANT FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $146,330.76, AS SPECIFIED IN ATTACHMENT "A," ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED; ALLOCATING SAID FUNDS TO BETTER WAY OF MIAMI, INC. ("BETTER WAY"), FOR EMERGENCY SHELTER AND TRANSITIONAL HOUSING OPERATING COSTS AT THE BETTER WAY FACILITY LOCATED AT 675 NORTHWEST 17 STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, WITH SAID AGENCY, FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 04-0708, adopted October 28, 2004, the City Commission approved the transfer of Emergency Shelter Grant ("ESG") funds, the amount of $140,158.94, to the City of Miami ("City") Homeless Program for the provision of essential services; and WHEREAS, said funds could not be used for said purpose; and WHEREAS, Better Way of Miami, Inc. ("Better Way"), provides shelter, residential care, treatment, and housing services on a continuum to indigent, homeless and addicted persons and their families in the City area; and WHEREAS, Better Way provides said services at 675 Northwest 17 Street, Miami, Florida; and WHEREAS, the Administration is requesting the transfer of ESG funds, in the amount of $146,330.76, to Better Way of Miami, Inc.; and WHEREAS, said funds will be utilized for emergency shelter and transitional housing operating costs including but not limited to: maintenance, operation, repair, furnishings, insurance, utilities and security; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The transfer of ESG funds, in the amount of $146,330.76, as specified in Attachment "A," attached and incorporated, and the allocation of said funds to Better Way, for emergency shelter and transitional housing operating costs at the Better Way facility located at 675 Northwest, Miami, Florida, is authorized. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute an Agreement, in substantially the attached form, with said agency, for said purpose. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
