Subject: Sole Source Purchase of a Ominitrak Latent Station
Purpose of Item:
A Resolution of the Miami City Commission waiving by a 4/5ths affirmative vote of the members of
the City Commission, after an advertised public hearing, ratifying, approving and confirming the City
Manager's finding of a sole source; waiving the requirements for competitive sealed bidding
procedures, and approving the purchase and maintenance of a Omnitrak Latent Station, from Printrak,
a Motorola Company, in an amount not to exceed $ e 7,64o. 1 . Funding

available from the Coverdell

Background Information:
By purchasing the Omnitrak Latent Station, the Crime Scene Investigation/Technical Services (CSI/TS)
Unit will not only reduce the backlog of cases, but will also greatly improve their day--to-day operations.
Implementation of additional methods in latent finger and palm prints will improve the turnaround time
of identifying the finger and palm prints, while facilitating a faster solution of a case. The unit urgently
needs this equipment to solve its shortage of limited laboratory equipment and to make sure its
personnel is properly trained and utilizing the most up to date methods, techniques and technology
available in the forensic science field. This technology enhancement will improve the unit's quality of
work and veracity of results,
