Subject: Authorizing the piggyback of various contracts under US Communities Government
Purchasing Alliance.
Purpose of Item:
The nature of this item is to establish a resolution authorizing the piggyback of various contracts
under the US Communities Government Purchasing AIliance, on an as needed basis citywide. The
Fire Rescue and Police Departments have recently expressed a need to purchase Homeland Security
Solutions and Technology Products from US Communities contracts #RQ06-814063-10A and
#RQ03-605674-16A. Other contracts currently available are Electrical, Comm & Data Supplies;
Janitorial Supplies; School Furniture; Carpet and Flooring; Office Machines; Park and Playground;
P.E. Equipment. Allocating funds from the various sources of funds from the user departments and
agencies, authorizing said purchases, as needed, subject to availability of funds and budget approval at
time of need.
Background Information:
U.S. Communities is a nonprofit, nationwide strategic sourcing program designed by public
purchasing professionals for use by government agencies and public -benefit non profits throughout
the country. U.S. Communities Government Purchasing Alliance (US Communities) established a
national structure for local government agencies to make use of their collective purchasing power and
to improve the overall effectiveness of their purchasing processes, sponsored by The Association of
School Business Officials International (ASBO), the National Association of Counties (NACo), the
National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP), the National League of Cities (NLC), and the
United States Conference of Mayors (USCM)
This resolution will authorize the use on an as needed basis, of the various contracts identified above,
and currently available under US Communities, specifically, Homeland Security Solutions Contract
#RQ06-814063-10A, and Technology Products Contract #RQ03-605674-16A, subject to any
extensions and/or replacement contracts, in addition to newly approved contracts by US Communities
as they become available.
