Coconut Grove Business Improvement Committee Members
Dear BIC Members:
The Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce is please to bring back a very successful event The Great Taste
of the Grove, formerly known as simply The Taste of the Grove, after a seven year hiatus. On January 29,
2006, Peacock Park will once again, for the 166 time, be filled with the Grove's greatest food, jazz, art and
natural beauty. A gathering of 10,000 individuals are expected for this free one day event from 11:00 a.m.
to 8:00 p.m.
The Great Taste of the Grove is limited to Grove restaurants, artists and exhibitors. it is to showcase the
community's business through samplings of food, wine, art, and jazz. There will be no street closings.
Attendees will be encouraged to stroll the sidewalks of the Grove and visit the many businesses.
Attached you will find a three page fact sheet with more details of the event, a press release, the City of
Miami Special Events Application dated June 7, 2005, including a certificate of insurance, a sample letter
notifying the surrounding businesses and organizations with copies of the receipt for sending it by certified,
return receipt through the U.S. Mail, a map, and a budget. Some of this information was submitted to the
BIC Special Events sub -committee, which asked that this more detailed package be submitted to the full
BIC.
=On June 8, 2005, the Chamber presented its application before the City of Miami Special Events
committee. A copy of those in attendance is attached. At that time the event was planned for November 13,
2005. In August, we changed the date to January 29, 2006. We were informed last week that there 'is" ' "ie
already an event called "Fido and Friends" planned for January 21, 2006 in Peacock Park from 9:00 a.m. to
1:00 p.m. and we are going before the City of Miami Commission on December 15, 2005 to request a
waiver of the ordinance that prohibits two events on two consecutive weekends in the same month.
We are requesting that the BIC assist us with this matter, recommend the waiver of City Fees for this event
and provide marketing assistance to make this a truly Great Taste of the Grove.
