Subject: Resolution to apply for grant funds for tree -tracking equipment
Purpose of Item:
Resolution authorizing the City Manager to submit an application for grant funding to the State of
,Florida, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Forestry in an amount not to
exceed $50,000 for the overall cost of the tree equipment. Also, authorization is necessary for the
allocation of required matching funds for fifty (50%) of the project, in an amount not to exceed
$25,000, from the PUBLIC WORKS GENERAL ACCOUNT NUMBER 001000.311003.6.840.
Background Information:
As per the 2005 State of the City address, the Public Works Department is committed towards
forestation/reforestation activites in the City's public right-of-way. The City has already entered into
a grant memorandum of agreement with the Florida Dept. of Agriculture, Division of Forestry for
reforestation in the Little Haiti section of Miami. There is currently another grant that is still pending
with the same agency for reforestation in the Flagami section. This grant is to purchase equipment
that will aid the Department of Public Works inspectors towards inventorying and managing the
number of trees that are in the City's rights -of -way.
