Re: Out -of -School Parks Grant from Children's Trust
Through City of Miami, Parks & Recreation Department
Services to be performed by the Miami Museum of Science & Planetarium
In support of the City of Miami's YES project, the Miami Museum of Science & Planetarium
(the Museum) will provide the following services:
1. The Museum's IT specialist will assist with the set up of the software installation at the
park sites, including training staff on set up and maintenance. The Museum's IT
specialist will also provide ongoing technical follow-up support to all 5 operating sites.
2. The Museum's Instructional Technology Specialist will deliver training to park staff at
the three new participating sites on the use of all software and activities to support the
reading and science activities within the YES after -school program. Follow-up training
on use of new software and activities will also be provided to staff at existing 3 sites.
3. The Instructional Technology specialist will provide ongoing site -based support to each
of the 5 parks, conducting a total of 52 visits (two per week).
4. The Museum will recruit and hire 5 mentors to support the delivery of science
programming at each park site. Mentors will receive training from Museum staff
preparing them to support delivery of software and hands-on science activities at each
site. Mentors will provide support 2 hours per day, 2 days per week during the academic
year.
5. To further enrich the science programming provided at each YES after -school site, the
Museum will provide Wildlife Demonstrations featuring live animals from the Museum's
Wildlife Center. Museum staff will conduct two presentations per site, for a total of 10
presentations.
6. The Museum will host a total of five Family Days, one per site. Family days will be open
to a total of 350 participants and 1,050 family members (3 family members per
participant). Family Days will be scheduled for three hours on weekends, and will
include full access to the Museum's permanent and traveling exhibits, a Planetarium
show, and hands-on science demos. (Note: transportation to be provided by the City.)
