A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING A
DONATION OF FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $30,000, TO CO-SPONSOR THE
NATIONAL BATTLEBOTS IQ COMPETITION AND TO COVER THE COST OF ALL
CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY") SERVICES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT, THAT
WILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT ECONOMIC IMPACT ON THE CITY BY
HIGHLIGHTING BUSINESSES AND POSITIVELY IMPACTING THE IMAGE OF
THE CITY; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM ACCOUNT NO. 001000.921054.6.289.
WHEREAS, in 2004 over 2,000 out of town participants attended the National BattleBots IQ
Competition ("Competition); and
WHEREAS, out of town visitors attending the Competition will bring approximately $1,000,000
worth of tourism revenue into the community; and
WHEREAS, BattleBots IQ is an educational program created by the producers of the BattleBots
television series in which homemade, remote controlled robots face-off in competition; and
WHEREAS, student fans of the BattleBots television series wanted to build competitive robots of
their own; and
WHEREAS, said educational program exposes youth to the various career opportunities
interrelated with robotics, technology, and manufacturing; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") is working closely with the Miami -Dade County Public
Schools to improve the quality of the City's schools; and
WHEREAS, manufacturing and technology sectors have been impressed with what BattleBots IQ
has done for workforce development, and how it has created an awareness of an industry that until
now was lackluster; and
WHEREAS, the Competition will receive funding from both private and public entities including
municipal support in the amount of $30,000;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The donation of funds, in the amount of $30,000, to co-sponsor the Competition and
cover the cost of all City services associated with said event, that will have a significant economic
impact on the City by highlighting businesses and positively impacting the image of the City, is

authorized, with funds allocated from Account No. 001000.921054.6.289.
Section 3. The Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{1}

Footnotes :
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this. Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
