HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislation• City of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.ci.miami.fl.us File Number: 06-00268 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR GRANT FUNDING TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, RECREATIONAL TRAILS PROGRAM, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $200,000, IN SUPPORT OF THE INTERPRETIVE TRAIL AT VIRGINIA KEY, TO PROVIDE FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE EXISTING TRAIL AND THE ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION TO THE TRAIL ("PROJECT"); FURTHER DIRECTING THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT TO AMEND ITS CURRENT CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PLAN TO INCLUDE THE PROJECT IF THE GRANT APPLICATION IS SELECTED FOR FUNDING, AND TO PRESENT SAID AMENDMENT TO THE CITY COMMISSION FOR ITS APPROVAL. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") wishes to improve the existing interpretive nature trail at Virginia Key Park and add a new section to the trail that will effectively double the trail in size ("Project"); and WHEREAS, the City is in great need of additional green space and additional opportunities for City residents to experience open, natural trails; and WHEREAS, the Project will make available additional quality green space to residents and will provide a unique interpretive nature trail experience; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to apply for grant funding from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection ("FDEP") for the Project, in an amount not to exceed $200,000; and WHEREAS, FDEP requires that the City's Capital Improvement Plan be amended to include the Project if the grant application is selected for funding; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORI DA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized{1} to submit an application for grant funding to the FDEP, Recreational Trails Program, in an amount not to exceed $200,000, in support of the Project. Section 3. The Capital Improvements and Transportation Department is directed to amend its current Capital Improvements Plan to include the Project if the grant application is selected for funding, and to present said amendment to the City Commission for its approval. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of City of Miami Page 1 of 2 Printed On: 2/28/2006 File Number: 06-00268 the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JORGE FERNANDEZ CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Ordinance, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
