Wysong III DATE: May 1, 2024 RE: Resolution No. R-24-0158 — Historical Marker Placement - The Fleischer Studio File No. 15902 At its April 25, 2024, meeting, the City Commission adopted the above referenced agenda item, RE.9, declaring no objection and supporting the placement of a Florida Historical Marker designating the portion of the public right-of-way located at approximately 1788 Delaware Parkway, Miami, Florida, as "Fleischer Studios in Miami," subject to such language on the Florida Historical Marker being approved by the City of Miami's Administration. The item inadvertently published with a typographical error. Further, the version of the file was inadvertently incremented to Revision "A" prior to publication. Therefore, there are no revisions reflected between the original version and Revision "A." The file has been corrected and incremented to Revision B. WHEREAS, a request has been made by some City of Miami ("City") residents to place. a Florida Historical Marker designating the portion of the public right-of-way located at approximately 1788 Delaware Parkway, Miami, Florida, as "The Fleischer Studios in Miami"; and WHEREAS, created in the early 20th century by brothers Max and Dave Fleischer, Fleischer Studios was a pioneer in the art and craft of animation and were responsible for creating and animating some of the most beloved characters in American animation including Betty Boop and Koko the Clown; and WHEREAS, Miami's state-of-the-art studio, Fleischer Studios, was built to accommodate an increased demand for their films and to attract the film industry to Miami; and WHEREAS, the Fleischer's employed 760 artists producing one -reel Popeye short films, as well as two feature-length films: Gulliver's Travels (1939) and Mr. Bug Goes to Town (1941); and WHEREAS, the City Commission declares no objection and supports the placement of this Florida Historical Marker located at the Marker Location designating the same as "The Fleischer Studios in Miami"; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Commission declares no objection and supports placement of a Florida Historical Marker at the Marker Location designating the same as "The Fleischer Studios in Miami", subject to such language on the Florida Historical Marker being approved by the City's Administration. Section 3.
