A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT, IN
SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY")
AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, CENTER FOR
RESEARCH IN MEDICAL EDUCATION ("UMCRME"), A NOT -FOR -PROFIT
ORGANIZATION, TO DESIGNATE THE CITY TO ACT AS A SATELLITE TRAINING
SITE OF THE UMCRME TO CONDUCTAMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION
COURSES IN BASIC LIFE SUPPORT, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED THE
FEES AND COSTS LISTED IN THE AGREEMENT, SECTION II (K), FOR A
ONE-YEAR PERIOD, WITH THE OPTION TO RENEW FOR SUCCESSIVE ONE (1)
YEAR TERMS OR UNTIL TERMINATED BY ANY PARTY UPON 30 DAYS WRITTEN
NOTICE; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE PUBLIC ACCESS DEFIBRILLATION
PROGRAM, PROJECT NO. 110137, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 280111.6.722,
SUBJECT TO BUDGETARY APPROVAL.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No. 12402, adopted September 11, 2003, the City of Miami
("City") entered into an Agreement with the University of Miami School of Medicine, Center for
Research in Medical Education ("UMCRME") dated July 16, 2004 to act as a satellite training site of
the UMCRME to conduct American Heart Association ("AHA") courses in Basic Life Support effective
until May 31, 2005, with an automatic extended recurring basis or until terminated by any party upon
30 days of written notice; and
WHEREAS, the City and UMCRME have found this to be a mutually beneficial relationship, and
both parties have met all AHA training requirements and obligations of the previous contract; and
WHEREAS, UMCRME has proposed a processing fee increase in an amount of $1.50 per student
from $1.50 to $3.00; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the City Commission to allow said increase and to enter into an
Agreement with UMCRME for a one-year period, for the continuation of the City to act as a satellite
training site of the UMCRME for AHA courses in Basic Life Support on a contractual basis until such
time as this Agreement may be cancelled by either party in the manner provided for;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute an Agreement, in substantially the
attached form, between the City and the UMCRME, a not -for -profit organization, to designate the City
to act as a satellite training site of the UMCRME to conduct AHA courses in Basic Life Support, in an

amount not to exceed the fees and costs listed in the Agreement, Section II (K), for a one-year period,
with the option to renew for successive one (1) year terms or until terminated by any party upon 30
days written notice, with funds allocated from the Public Access Defibrillation Program, Project No.
110137, Account Code No. 280111.6.722, subject to budgetary approval.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}
Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter
and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
