HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-06-0033City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-06-0033 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 06-00060 Final Action Date: 1/12/2006 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $75,000, TO PAY FOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE 2006 URBAN SEARCH AND RESCUE ("USAR") TASK FORCE AFTER ACTION CONFERENCE, ON BEHALF OF THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY ("FEMA") , TO BE HELD JANUARY 29, 2006 THROUGH FEBRUARY 3, 2006, AT THE SEMINOLE HARD ROCK HOTEL, LOCATED AT 1 SEMINOLE WAY, HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA; ALLOCATING SAID FUNDS FROM THE "FEMA/USAR GRANT AWARD, FISCAL YEAR 2005," PROJECT NO. 110153, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 280106.6.340. WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 05-0557, adopted September 22, 2005, the City Commission accepted a grant in the amount of $892,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency ("FEMA") for the operation of the South Florida Urban Search and Rescue ("USAR") Program for Fiscal Year 2005; and WHEREAS, FEMA has approved as stipulated in the Award Letter, attached and incorporated, an additional $75,000 grant award to the City of Miami ("City"), subject to the availability of funds, on behalf of FEMA, to cover the cost for the 2006 USAR Task Force After Action Conference ("Conference"), to be held January 29, 2006 through February 3, 2006, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, located at 1 Seminole Way, Hollywood, Florida; and WHEREAS, the Conference is designed to bring together the USAR members and their sponsoring agency representatives to discuss the busy 2005 hurricane season and strategize for future disaster recovery; and WHEREAS, as predicted the trend for the increase in storms is expected to last for approximately another 20 years; and WHEREAS, hurricanes can be dangerous killers and planning ahead can reduce the chances of injury or major property damage; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the City Commission to authorize the expenditure of funds from the FEMA/USAR Grant Award, Fiscal Year 2005 to pay for the immediate expense of the meeting room rental and preliminary logistical expenses to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, related to the Conference, in anticipation of the award of the grant at a later date; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. The expenditure of funds, in the amount not to exceed $75,000, to pay for costs associated with the Conference, on behalf of FEMA, to be held January 29, 2006 through February 3, 2006, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, located at 1 Seminole Way, Hollywood, Florida, is authorized, with funds allocated from the "FEMA/USAR Grant Award, Fiscal Year 2005," Project No. 110153, Account Code No. 280106.6.340. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor {1 }. Footnotes: {1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
