HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-06-0008City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-06-0008 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 05-01526 Final Action Date: 1/12/2006 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE DONATION OF FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $75,000, TO CO-SPONSOR THE "5TH ANNUAL RECLAIM THE DREAM CANDLELIGHT MEMORIAL SERVICE AND UNITY MARCH" BEING HELD ON APRIL 4, 2006, AT DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING BOULEVARD AND NORTHWEST 8TH AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM ACCOUNT NO. 001000.921054.6.289. WHEREAS, April 4th is the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; and WHEREAS, Reclaim the Dream is a campaign to revitalize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Boulevard in Miami, Florida; and WHEREAS, the "Annual Reclaim the Dream Candlelight Memorial Service and Unity March" events have been tremendously successful and have attracted over 3,000 people in attendance; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami's continued commitment to the community on said historic date is essential to help commemorate Dr. King and to "Reclaim the Dream;" NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The donation of funds, in the amount of $75,000, to co-sponsor the "5th Annual Reclaim the Dream Candlelight Memorial Service and Unity March," being held on April 4, 2006, at Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and Northwest 8th Avenue, Miami, Florida, is authorized, with funds allocated from Account No. 001000.921054.6.289. Section 2. Said funds are allocated with the condition that all events be held at venues located within the City. Section 3. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
