AL Type: ® Resolution ❑ Ordinance ❑ Emergency Ordinance ❑ Discussion Item ❑ Other Subject: Accepting the bid of NABCO, Inc. for the purchase of a Gas Tight Total Containment Vessel Purpose of Hem: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt this Resolution accepting the bid of NABCO, Inc., a non-minority/non-local bidder for the purchase of a Gas Tight Total Containment Vessel, with accessories under formal bid #04-05-108, in an amount not to exceed $269,200. Funding is provided from the Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) Grant Program, Account No. 110143.280911.840 for the Department of Police. Two bids were received on August 22, 2005 and NABCO, Inc. a non-minority/non-local, located at 1001 Corporate Drive #205, Canonsburg, PA was established to have submitted the only responsive bid by the Department of Purchasing. Background Information: This is specialized equipment that will be utilized by Bomb Squad technicians from the Special Operations Section to enhance the department's Homeland Security Initiative in conjuction with joint operations with various federal and local agencies to interdict terrorist and halt, explosive activities while preventing injuries. This equipment allows for the detonation of explosive devices inside of a gas tight ball which will contain any damage to any surrounding buildings, vehicles, or people. One of the main features is to mitigate all types of explosive devices which may contain chemical or biological agents into this containment vessel, thereby, allowing for appropriate disposal without endangering the life of bomb technicians or others.
