Subject: Accepting a Grant from American Heart Association
Purpose of Item:
Resolution accepting a new special revenue fund entitled: "American Heart Association Contribution
Fund, Fiscal Year 2005" and appropriating funds for the operation of same, in the amount of $25,000
from the American Heart Association to be used by the Department of Fire -Rescue. These funds will
be used, as stipulated by the grant, to purchase eleven (11) automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to
be placed in the City of Miami police vehicles and to provide hands -on -training and material to City
personnel.
Background Information:
In support of the City of Miami's Public Access Defibrillation Program the American Heart
Association has awarded a grant to the City of Miami Department of Fire -Rescue for Fiscal Year
2005, in the amount of $25,000. Specifically, the City will use these funds as stipulated by the grant,
for the purchase of eleven (11) AEDs and to provide training and material to its City personnel. To
continue improving public safety interoperability the awarded grant will allow the Department of
Fire -Rescue to train additional personnel to respond to calls of "sudden cardiac arrest" and the ability
to dispense these life savings devices into City police vehicles.
