The State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of EMS, awarded a grant to the City of Miami entitled: "EMS Matching Grant M5091," in the amount of $50,189, to be apportioned to support the pre -hospital activities, services, and other EMS as specified in the Grant Application. Specifically, the City will use these funds along with the matching funds allocated by the City of Miami in the amount of $16,730 to purchase one SimMan patient simulator and to provide hands on training to all City of Miami Fire -Rescue paramedics and emergency medical technicians. The SimMan advance life support simulator will be used in daily training to enable our EMS personnel to act instinctively in the most appropriate and effective manner. In addition, said proposed simulator will provide a multi- disciplinary educational tool that will maintain and test our clinical and decision -making skills in a safe, learning environment. Simulation training is paramount to our Quality Management Program that identifies key areas that require additional training focus. The implementation of said program will also provide a wide -range of realistic patient presentations that will provide scenarios with training in areas such as airway, cardiac rhythms, lung sounds, trauma and other relevant patient care situations. This will improve our training, testing, and Quality Management programs and bring these areas to another level improving quality patient care. It is now appropriate to accept said grant award, establish a special revenue fund, and appropriate the said grant award therein for this fiscal year. Page 2
