HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationAn.�1T f n .e • , r`5`,\t City of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.ci.miami.fl.us File Number: 05-01277 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE PROGRAM, TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE OPERATION OF THE PROGRAM, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $100,000; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NO. 690001, WITH SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH FLORIDA STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture cash or proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the Department of Police, through the Police Athletic League ("PAL"), is committed to the education and development of the youth of our community; and WHEREAS, PAL personnel will monitor all activities in conjunction with the Department of Parks and Recreation on -site staff, plan and organize recreational and educational activities, and promote PAL sponsored events within City of Miami ("City") parks; and WHEREAS, PAL requires funding to assist with the expenses related to staffing, to purchase participants uniforms, to purchase equipment needed for recreational activities, computers and educational software, as well as, cover other expenses associated with the PAL program; and WHEREAS, funds for these expenditures have not been included in the Department of Police's normal operating budget and are available in the City Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as amended; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 932.7055(c) Florida Statutes (1999), the recipient, PAL, shall: 1) certify that funds appropriated will be used lawfully and for the purpose stated, 2) be required to maintain proper accounting records for the expenditure of such monies and 3) provide any reports, including but not limited to audit reports, as may be required by the City or applicable law; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The funding of the PAL Program, to assist with expenses related to the operation of the program, in an amount not to exceed $100,000, is authorized, with funds allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, with such expenditures having been approved by the City of Miami Page 1 of 2 Printed On: 12/5/2005 fi File Number: 05-01277 Chief of Police as complying with Section 932.7055, Florida State Statutes, as amended. Section 3.
