Purpose of Item:
Award a contract to Texas Aquatic Harvesting, Inc., a company located at 6403 Park Lane, Lake
Wales, whose principal is Mr. James P. Vaughan, President, for the project entitled "Citywide Canal
& Waterways Maintenance Project, B-30255 (Second Bidding)", in the amount of $ 1,924,960. This
contract is for a two year period and the City reserves the right to renew for three additional one year
periods.
Background Information:
On September 26, 2005, the Public Works Department received formal bids to maintain the canals
and waterways located in the City. Six (6) prospective bidders picked up specifications and one (1)
contractor submitted a bid. Texas Aquatic Harvesting, Inc. submitted the lowest responsible and
responsive bid in the amount of $1,924,960. This amount consists of $778,753 for the first year plus
$368,454 for a one time cleaning of all canals for the first year only, and a total of $778,753 for the
second year. Funds are allocated from PW General Account No. 001000.311003.6.340, in the amount
of $1,924,960 to cover contract costs. The estimated construction time for this project is two years
after issuance of a notice to proceed with the option to renew for three additional one year periods.
