A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE
ADMINISTRATION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY") TO ENFORCE ALL CITY
CODES AND ANY OTHER ZONING AND RELEVANT LAWS RELATED TO THE
PROPOSED USE OF AN ABANDONED OFFICE BUILDING AT 2929 NORTHWEST
17TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA, OR OF ANY OTHER INADEQUATE OR
IMPROPERLY ZONED FACILITY IN THE CITY OF MIAMI, AS A HOUSING
SHELTER FOR TEMPORARY HOUSING OF RESIDENTS DISPLACED BY
HURRICANE WILMA; FURTHER DIRECTING THAT THIS RESOLUTION BE
TRANSMITTED FORTHWITH TO MIAMI-DADE COUNTY TO EXPRESS THE
STRONG OBJECTION OF THE CITY TO THE USE OF 2929 NORTHWEST 17TH
STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA, OR OTHER FACILITIES IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS
BECAUSE THE PROPOSED USES VIOLATE THE CITY'S ZONING REGULATIONS
AND IMPACT LIFE, HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has received information that Miami -Dade County ("County")
and the Red Cross intend to use an abandoned County building at 2929 Northwest 17th Street,
Miami, Florida, to serve as a shelter for residents displaced by Hurricane Wilma; and
WHEREAS, the abandoned building is inadequate, not properly zoned and improper as housing
for displaced residents; and
WHEREAS, said residents deserve humane treatment and proper housing in facilities other than
an abandoned office building after the tragedy of their displacement; and
WHEREAS, the County can accommodate displaced residents in its affordable housing surplus
stock or in alternative facilities which comply with legal requirements for use and feasibility;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Administration is directed to enforce all City codes and any other zoning and
relevant laws related to the proposed use of an abandoned office building at 2929 Northwest 17th
Street, Miami, Florida, or of any other inadequate or improperly zoned facility in the City as a housing
shelter for temporary housing of residents displaced by Hurricane Wilma.
Section 3. The Administration is further directed that this Resolution be transmitted forthwith to the
County to express the strong objection of the City to the use of 2929 Northwest 17th Street, Miami,
Florida, or other facilities in residential areas because the proposed uses violate the City's zoning

regulations and impact life, health and safety issues.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{1}
Footnotes:
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, if shall
become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
