HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.ci.miami.fl.us File Number: 05-01254 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE FUND ENTITLED: "SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROJECT," AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THE OPERATION OF SAME IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $66,505, CONSISTING OF A GRANT FROM THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES, IN THE AMOUNT OF $49,879, REQUIRED MATCHING FUNDS, FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI, IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $16,626; ALLOCATING FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $16,626, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NO. 690001, WITH SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING," AND FLORIDA STATE STATUTE, CHAPTER 932.7055; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT AND TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, TO IMPLEMENT ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT. WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice and Treasury, and Florida State Statute, Chapter 932.7055, as amended, authorize the expenditure of forfeiture cash and proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has a strong interest in reducing truancy in our City schools; and WHEREAS, the City's Department of Police will continue its efforts in the Resisting Aggression Defensively Program (RADKids) in targeted elementary schools in the City; and WHEREAS, the City has received a grant in the amount of $49,879, from Miami -Dade County, through its Department of Human Services; and WHEREAS, a match, in the amount of $16,626, is required of the City, to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001; and WHEREAS, any purchases would have to comply with applicable City code purchasing requirements; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. The following new Special Revenue Fund is established and resources are appropriated as described below: FUND TITLE: SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROJECT RESOURCES: Miami -Dade County, $49,879 Department of Human Services City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund $16,626 4PPROPRIATIONS: SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROJECT $66,505 Section 3, The City Manager is authorized {1 } to execute the necessary documents, in substantially the attached form, to implement acceptance of said grant. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JORGE L. FERNANDEZ CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
