Subject: Purchase of two (2) - 2006 Contender Vessels for the Police Department's Marine Patrol Unit
Purpose of Item:
A Resolution authorizing the purchase of two (2) - 2006/25' Contender Vessels, with twin Yamaha
Engines, trailer and other accessories, from Contender Boats, Inc., for the Department of Police, as
authorized under the Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Miami, and the State of Florida
Counter -Drug Procurement Program, established and maintained pursant to National Defense
Authorization Act Section 1122, known as the "1122 Program", at a cost of $179,311.02, allocating
funds from the Urban Areas Security Initiative Grant Program III, FY 2004, in the amount of
$89,655.51, under Account Code No. 110143.280911.6.840, and the Police General Fund, in the
amount of $89,655.51, under Account Code No. 001000.290301.6.830.
Background Information:
These vessels will be utilized by the Police Department's Marine Patrol to patrol the Miami River and
other City waterways and waterfronts to enhance the department's Homeland Security Initiative and
for counter drug activities. They will also be used with both the Organized Crime and Terrorism
Section and various federal and local agencies to interdict drug traffickers.
