These funds will be used, as stipulated by the grant, to implement a wireless data collection system for the Department of Fire -Rescue. Director � Fire Chief - /F /1 City Manager Page 1 of 1 Accepting Emergency Medical Services C'EMS") Matching Grant M5092 Award Background Information: (Continued) This year, the State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of EMS, awarded a grant to the City of Miami entitled: "EMS Matching Grant M5092," in the amount of $180,000, to be apportioned to support the pre -hospital activities, services, and other EMS as specified in the Grant Application. Specifically, the City will use these funds along with the matching funds allocated by the City of Miami in the amount of $60,000 to implement and purchase thirty-four (34) wireless data collection' devices. The wireless data system will be installed in the City's Department of Fire -Rescue Advance Life Support (ALS) response units to reduce radio traffic, city exposure to liability due to inconsistent report writing, and most importantly, improve response times. In addition, this program will allow the Department of Fire -Rescue to contribute to the State EMS Office's goal to develop an integrated data system for use in research and validation of EMS delivery systems, including evaluation of service delivery and patient outcome. It is now appropriate to accept said grant award, establish a special revenue fund, and appropriate the said grant award therein for this fiscal year. Page 2
