The Edward Byme Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states, tribes, and local governments to support a broad range of
activities to prevent and control crime based an their own local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives,
technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice for any one or
more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4)
corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment programs; and 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement
programs.

The City or Miami will use the JAG funds fora variety of law enforcement projects. Over the next four years the Miami Police Department will he
implementing and expanding the following projects:
I. Pawn Shop Pilot Project, This will involve coordinating and improving operations and relationships with pawn shop business owners in the
community,
2. Technology Acquisition and Equipment improvement Project. Mobile Data Computers will be installed in police cars to improve
communications with police headquarters. Criminal Scene Investigation (CSI) equipment and technology will also be purchased to improve the
quality and speed of crime investigation.
3. Payment of Overtime to Police Officers Project Overtime will be used to cover expenses incurred by police officers while participating in
special projects/events.
4, Acquisition of K9 Dogs Project. The canine unit will purchase additional dogs to be used in drug investigations and explosives incidents.
