Requesting Department: Public Facilities Commission Meeting Date: 9/22/2005 District Impacted: 2 Type: ® Resolution ❑ Ordinance ❑ Emergency Ordinance ❑ Discussion Item ❑ Other Subject: Resolution -- FWC Grant Application - Dinner Key Dredging Purpose of Item: The purpose of this item is a two -fold request: 1) For the Department of Conferences, Conventions & Public Facilities to get permission to seek funds from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission's Boating Infrastructure Grant Program (BIGP) for 75% of the project amounting to $750,000 of grant funding, with the required 25% matching funds of $250,000 to fund the dredging project and 2) As a criteria for the City of Miami to commit to fund and provide resources necessary to operate and maintain the waters surrounding Dinner Key Marina, for a period of twenty years per said grant agreement. Background Information: At certain points near the Seminole Dinghy Dock, water is un-navigable for even the smallest boats, while larger vessel owners pose the risk of running aground. The proposed dredging area extends outward from the Seminole Public Dinghy Dock & Boat Ramps, an area just east of SW 27th Avenue and Bayshore Drive in Coconut Grove, toward the AICW and will remove the sediment encroaching into the AICW and the surrounding areas off Dinner Key Marina. This project will enhance waterway access, eliminate safety hazards for vessel owners and the maritime community, and minimize damage to the bay bottom and its maritime life.
