Subject: Establish Special Revenue Fund "FEMA/USAR Grant Award (FY 2005")
Purpose of Item:
Adopt a Resolution to establish a special revenue fund entitled: "FEMA/USAR Grant Award (FY
2005)" and appropriating funds, in the amount of $892,000, consisting of a grant received by the City
from the Federal Emergency Management Agency ("FEMA") commencing March 1, 2005 through
June 30, 2006. The FY 2005 funds will be used, as stipulated by the grant, for the acquisition of
specialized equipment, provision of training, management and administration of the South Florida
Urban Search and Rescue Program ("USAR").
Background Information:
The Federal Emergency Management Agency "FEMA" has annually awarded a FEMA grant to the
South Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 2, for the continued operation of the City's USAR
Program. This award is the eighth annual grant that our Task Force has been eligible to receive since
FEMA officially recognized the City sponsored program on December 15, 1996. Said grant award for
Fiscal Year 2005 is in the amount of $892,000 beginning March 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006. It is
now appropriate to accept said grant award, establish a special revenue fund, and appropriate the
$892,000 grant award therein for said fiscal year.
