RE:, Channel Platforms Replacement, Brennan's Channel Dinner Key Marina, Miami
Dear Dr. Madkour:
JOE ARRIOLA
City Manager
I am pleased to submit this application on behalf of the City of Miami requesting support for replacing
channel marker platforms in Brennan's Channel at Dinner Key in Miami's Coconut Grove waterfront.
Our project is to replace platforms that are severely damaged by corrosion and from hits by vessels that
have strayed from the navigation channel.
The new platforms will provide essential navigational aids to transient. In this hurricane season, the need
for safe dockage has been especially great and the Dinner Key Marina is a safe haven for larger transient
boats. We have 581 slips and can accommodate vessels ranging from 30' to 125.' Once in place, the
platforms will address both emergency dockage needs as well as more recreational stays by transient
boaters from other Florida counties.
As noted in our application, the three platforms to be replaced are beyond repair. Our plan is to replace
them with only a minimal impact on the environment. We will dock a barge from which crews remove
will remove the damaged pilings and install new ones. Our approach is cost effective and will prove Tess
invasive to the environment.
Enclosed is an original copy of the application with attachments as well as three copies. The original and
copies include the required Federal SF 424 and project narrative.
In closing, this project is an element in a major capital investment in safe boating and upland amenities
for transient and other boaters in our Coconut Grove waterfront. We are confident that our project
supports Federal and State safe boating goals as well as contributing to the City of Miami's vision for
Dinner Key and the entire historic Coconut Grove waterfront. For technical questions regarding this
application, please contact Mr. Stephen Bogner, project director and Marinas Manager at (305) 579-6950
or by e-n}alil SBognera ci.miami.f3.us .
