Dear Chairman Sanchez:
This letter serves as the Miami River Commission's (MRC) "official
statement" to all City Commissioners, requested in City Resolution 00-
320, regarding July 28, 2005 City Commission agenda items PZ. 4 -
PZ. 6, which impact the Miami River.
On February 7, 2005 the Miami River Commission heard the "Miami
River Town" Major Use Special Permit, including the proposed land
use and zoning amendments, presented by Ms. Vicky Garcia -Toledo,
Bilzin, Sumberg, and the project's architect Mr. Aris Garcia,
Wolfberg, Alvarez & Associates. The MRC unanimously found the
mixed -use development to be consistent with the Miami River
Corridor Urban Infill Plan and the Miami River Greenway Action
Plan, as it features a fifty -foot setback from the shoreline, including a
publicly accessible 20-foot wide Riverwalk, consisting of a 16-foot
wide unobstructed pedestrian path and a 4-foot wide passive zone for
landscaping, decorative lighting, benches way -finding signage,
historical markers and other amenities.
