A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT, IN THE AMOUNT OF $164,962, FROM THE
CHILDREN'S TRUST TO ESTABLISH THE MIAMI YOUTH COUNCIL DURING THE
2005-2006 SCHOOL YEAR; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE
THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT ACCEPTANCE OF SAID
GRANT AWARD.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami's ("City") Office of the Mayor has requested funding from the
Children's Trust to establish the Miami Youth Council; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Youth Council will promote civic involvement in the community for youth by
youth, encourage and nurture cultural competence in youth, strengthen relations between local
schools, community organizations and municipal government; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Youth Council will facilitate a community youth network that organizes the
voices of the youth, through training in speaking properly and acting upon their concerns and beliefs;
and
WHEREAS, they will be guided and supported to maneuver through the local government
infrastructure and City elected officials will further recognize the importance of youth issues as the
young people become empowered as advocates; and
WHEREAS, the development of the Miami Youth Council serves as training for a future
adult -citizen base that will have greater trust and confidence in the functions of government and
understanding on how to generate support and advocacy for their community needs; and
WHEREAS, the City was awarded a grant in the amount of $164,962, pursuant to said request; and
WHEREAS, the City must execute an award package, including a Grant Award Agreement, to
accept the grant;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings found in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized{1} to accept a grant, in the amount of $164,962, from
the Children's Trust to establish the Miami Youth Council during the 2005-2006 school year.
Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1}to execute the necessary documents to implement the
acceptance of said grant award.

Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2)

Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed
by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code
provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission,
