Model City Community Revitalization Distrc ust
Subject: Appropriation of U.S. Environmental Protectio gency Grant to
Model City Trust
Date: June 17, 2005
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully requested that the City Commission approve the attached
resolution to recognize the grant funds awarded by the Environmental
Protection to the Model City Community Revitalization District Trust through
the creation of a Special Revenue Fund.
BACKGROUND:
The Model City Community Revitalization District Trust ("Model City Trust")
submitted applications for two sites located on the perimeter of the Model City
Homeownership Zone for consideration in the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency's Annual Brownfields Grant Application Process. With the Phase 1 and
Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments already complete, Model City Trust
submitted an application for two sites — 6200 NW 17th Avenue and 1199 NW 62nd
Street.
That effort was successful in that a $200,000 grant for the site located at 1199 NW
62nd Street was awarded. This agenda item has been prepared to establish the
special revenue fund necessary to administer this grant.
You may recall that the EPA had funded the 6200 NW 17th Avenue site last year.
The acquisition, however, did not close until two weeks after the deadline of
September 30, 2004. Thus, EPA reclaimed that award.
This $200,000 grant brings the Model City Trust's total environmental grants and
awards to over $2 Million.
