Subject: Interlocal Cooperation Agreement with Miami -Dade County to continue to provide citizens
with a single, primary three -digit emergency phone number.
Purpose of Item:
A resolution authorizing the City Manage to execute an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement, in
substantially the attached form, with Miami -Dade County to continue providing citizens with a single,
primary three -digit emergency phone number (911) as is intended and outlined in the Florida
Emergency Telephone Act, Section 365.171, Florida Statutes, and the Wireless Emergency
Communications Act, Section 365.172, Florida Statutes, attached.
Background Information:
This Interlocal Cooperating Agreement is necessary to comply with the Florida Emergency Telephone
Act, which will provide citizens with a rapid direct access to public safety agencies by dialing the
telephone number "911" with the objective of reducing the response time to situations requiring law
enforcement, fire, medical, rescue and other emergency services. The Wireless Emergency
Communications Act, Section 365.172, Florida Statutes, was created to levi fees to all local exchange
subscribers. The County is charged with collecting these fees and transferring these to the respective
municipalities to be used for 911 expenditures only.
