Also authorization is needed for the allocation of required matching funds for twenty-five percent (25%) of the project in an amount not to exceed $18,750 coming from Public Works General Account Number 001000.311003.6.340. Background Information: The Little Haiti section of the City of Miami is currently devoid of trees. During two tropical storm systems; Hurricane Frances and Hurricane Jeanne, Little Haiti's tree canopy was diminished. This section's tree canopy consisted of weak, damaged, diseased trees or trees with weak root systems. 200 trees toppled over and obstructed the public rights -of -way. Losing these trees has made this section devoid of significant tree protection/canopy from impending hurricane/storm events. For this reason, the City of Miami is requesting a grant in the amount of $75,000 from the Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program. Grant as well as matching funds in the amount of $18,750 will be used to replant trees in this area. A total of $93,750 dollars will be used for this project.
