HomeMy WebLinkAboutsupplement FR-SRSUPPLEMENT TO AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 54 OF THE CITY CODE -- BASE BUILDING LINES — NE 6TH STREET The original platted subdivisions that created NE 6th Street within the described limits dedicated a right of way of 40 feet. The road was subsequently developed with pavement, curb and gutter and sidewalk conforming to the 50 foot right of way and many of the structures on private property, including the historically designated Freedom Tower, were constructed abutting the property line established by a 50 foot wide roadway. NE 6th Street is currently a fully developed roadway. In 1985 the City Commission, by Ordinance, established a zoned base building line width of 75 feet for this roadway thereby reserving additional property in anticipation of future widening of this roadway. The Freedom Tower is designated historic for protection and NE 6th Street has not been widened. None of the additional reserved property within this block has been dedicated for street purposes to the full 75 foot width. The Public Works Department's review of this transportation corridor reveals that the current 50 foot wide developed roadway adequately serves the transportation needs of the public and protects the historic structure. The current increased zoned width of NE 6th Street negatively impacts the remainder of the Freedom Tower property and is not consistent with the developed right of way improvements. It is respectfully recommended that the zoned base building line width of NE 6th Street between NE 2"d Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard be reduced from 75 feet wide to the original developed 50 foot wide right of way to conform with current and future regulated development and permit the continued protection of the Freedom Tower. The Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue and Solid Waste have been notified of the proposed reduction of the zoned width of this right of way.
